36 Moons

Since the year 2000, the story of the Japanese syndicate 36 Moons became more than a simple fanfiction, it became an online role play. During earlier times when Japanese animation and rock music were increasing in popularity in America, a new and even more unorthodox fad swept female anime lovers, called yaoi.

Yaoi in Japanese pop culture began in the mid-late 1970's, the later times of anime and manga, when sex became less of a controversial subject and was being further exposed in the progressing Japanese media. Yaoi, generally defined as a genre of "male homosexual relationships/subjects involving sexual nature", attracted wide fandom through its beautiful artwork and engrossing characters, and its forbidden nature became yet even more tempting through its beauty and emotional plot lines. Only recently has America become open to wider views concerning gay discriminations, and the popularity of yaoi manga has been booming among young anime lovers since these times. You can find more of its background history and origin by checking out this page.

The author of 36 Moons also fell in admiration with its beautiful characters and artwork, thus she combined her talent with these interests into writing a story beyond the average fanfiction. This story became a long-running series, which became the popular online series it is today. And the story is still running, with even more engrossing characters and climaxes, giving anyone fortunate enough to read a chapter a newfound attraction for its characters and the attractive nature of yaoi.

Characters beyond redemption, dark in nature but not without their emotion, are what makes this series unique, and the charisma of the author that shows through the writing that is the core of each character's charm entices the reader further. This domain is the official website of the 36 Moons series, being the center of information and to promote the series to those curious yaoi fans, looking for the enchanting themes of anime in a written story.

The Author

Unnaturally familiar with the effects of fanfiction, she has written several short sidestories from her own creativity that accompany the main Moons arc which can be found in the archives section. Inspiration unlike for many came naturally, and the end result was an unusual outspurt of betrayal and deception that beguilded readers into the sensual realm of a powerful underground Japanese mafia. She has been writing about 36 Moons since 2000. Visit her blog by clicking here, where you can find parts of Confessions inbetween entries.

Her Q&A:

Q: Which arc would you say is your best?
My best would probably be Paradox. I think it's probably the dead center of the arc were nothing too boring happens and you learn a little more about a character who's hardly spoken a word in previous arcs.

Q: Are you starting any new series after 36 Moons?
I thought about it seriously. I'm in a total yakuza mood right now it's something I'm heavily interested in and if I did write something else it would probaby still be yakuza related.

Q: Any 36 sequels after Confessions?
Maybe. No promises yet.

Q: Why did you write the characters the way they are? Did you base them from yourself, someone you know, etc.?
Most of the characters, at first were just loosely based off people I knew. Not until a little later did the characters begin to flesh out a little more since my close friends have been used to continue basing personalities and attitudes from. Close friends have also adapted the characters and gave them more life which is why in the beginng of the arc you will see only two or three characters have deep personalities and later on other characters start to become deeper. Toki is based off me and everything I wish to accomplish, and stories people have told me about myself. So Toki is pretty much me.
